Taco Tuesday is one of those phrases that seems like it has been around forever. Even if you are not a fan of Mexican food, you have probably stumbled across the phrase at a local restaurant, cafeteria, or on college campuses.

The whole idea of Taco Tuesday gives us a good enough reason to eat tacos once a week (at least). And while that is enough to convince us, some may wonder where the trend started. If that’s you, you are in luck. In this blog, we will share a little Taco Tuesday history so that you can impress your friends the next time you hit the town to enjoy traditional Mexican cuisine.

The History of Taco Tuesday

The origin of Taco Tuesday is complicated, and upon researching, you’re likely to come across multiple origin stories. Many Mexican restaurants have claimed to be the trend-setters, some saying they came up with the name as early as the 1980s. However, the promotional phrase was used by a fast-food chain based out of Wyoming in 1982, and the chain ended up placing a registered trademark on the phrase in 1989.

While the history of taco Tuesday is unclear, we’re certainly not complaining as it has done the world a great service.
